Hello everyone! It's been quite a while since I last penned a blog post, but today I felt compelled to share my thoughts on something that's been on all our our minds. With everything happening in the world, it's more important than ever to recognize the impact of our shopping choices, especially when it comes to supporting small Canadian businesses.
When you purchase from a small Canadian business, you're not just purchasing a product; you're investing in our economy and supporting your fellow Canadians. Each purchase helps local artisans and entrepreneurs thrive, creating jobs and fostering communities. By keeping shops open here, we are contributing to the strength of Canada as a whole, ensuring that we maintain vibrant local economies.
From my own experience, having owned and operated loveJACK for 10 years (Yes!!), I know that not all products can be made in Canada. It's not always because businesses don't want to; sometimes, it's simply not possible to source certain materials or manufacture specific items here. In my own shop, I strive to offer as many Canadian-made products as I can and to also support Canadian art. I focus on items that celebrate our local talent and craftsmanship, while also being mindful of cost factors that can affect pricing. I work with amazing Canadian companies who in turn support my designs, which are all designed in-house by me personally.
I'm proud to say that all my paper products, including my yearly calendars, are printed in Ontario. My tote bags, cosmetic bags, pillows and even the inserts are made in Canada, meaning they are designed by me and decorated and sewn right here in Montreal. You can't get anymore Canadian than that - Canadian Art on Canadian Made products. The bath and beauty products I carry are called Dot n Lil and they are all made in Montreal. Our candles; made in Canada. Even my bracelets, are designed by me or selected specifically for my customers by me. There are more products in the shop that are also manufactured here, some of my t-shirts.
In our interconnected world, the importance of import and export cannot be overstated. These practices not only facilitate the exchange of goods and services but also foster economic growth, innovation, and cultural exchange between nations. Importing certain products allows businesses to offer a diverse range of items that may not be available or feasible to produce locally, enriching the shopping experience for consumers.
For my shop, importing specific products is not a negative for Canada; rather, it complements my commitment to supporting local artisans and the Canadian economy. By carefully selecting high-quality imports, I can provide my customers with unique items that enhance my offerings while still prioritizing Canadian designed, Canadian Art, Canadian-made goods.
Ironically, I only have one product that was made in the USA which are pillow cases that were manufactured in Georgia! I've always strived to buy Canadian.
Keep supporting your local businesses - whether their goods are made in Canada or not - you are still supporting the Canadian economy.
Proud to be Canadian.
